CELEBRATIONS BY CHEMINOVA INDIA IN COLLABORATION WITH UNIVERSITY OF MUMBAI
On getting the saplings from the hands of His Excellency, Mr.Freddy Svane, the Ambassador of Denmark on the previous day, the students of the Garware Institute of Agri-business Management of University of Mumbai celebrated the World Wetlands Day 2011 in the Institute Campus Auditorium at Kalina. The programme was graced by Professor Ashok Gavande from the Institute and Dr. Indulkar, Dr. Shankar and Mr. Sushil Desai from Cheminova India. About 80 students participated.
Dr. Indulkar presented the key note address. Dr. Shankar spoke about the importance of World Wetlands Day and the theme, FORESTS FOR WATER AND WETLANDS, for 2011. Mr. Sushil Desai made a presentation on the importance of TREES for addressing the climate change and prompted the studets to calculate their individual carbon footprint.
At the end of the programme all the participants took an oath to protect the trees and grow more and nurture them.
Students planted the saplings in the college premises to mark the beginning of the TREES FOR TOMORROW campaign of Cheminova India on the WORLD WETLANDS DAY. |

In the ongoing discussions and presentation the Students were apprasied on the subject of being Carbon neutral and the Carbon footprint of an individual and its sequestration by planting Trees. |
CARBON SEQUESTRATION
The annual capacity of a Matured Tree (35 to 40 years) to assimilate Carbon dioxide from the environment is approx 22 kg per day ~1 MT per annum
